How often do you walk or run?

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with running.

I gained the “Freshman 15” and during my sophomore year, lost that weight and more with a combination of running and weights.

In my late 40s, I gained a bunch of weight, and again, running was my go-to.

At one point, I could run 10 miles at a time. Never real fast, but consistent, which I guess is who I am in a nutshell. Never real fast with things, but consistent. Always the guy who shows up and gets work done.

At some point, maybe age got me or maybe it was motivation. More than likely, I just got tired from burning too many fires. Either way, I lost my way with running.

Physically and mentally, it shows.

So, I’m back. I walk at least 30 minutes a session, moving the incline from 0% to whatever is the tallest. On our treadmill at home, it goes to 15%. The treadmill at the gym we got to moved to 10%. I move it about every five to seven minutes, depending on how I feel. I’m rewatching the Amazon series, “Jack Ryan”, a sort of origin story about Jack Ryan, building towards his time in the Tom Clancy novels. I watched a bunch of them during Covid, then, they delayed the final season. It finally came out last year, so that’s my starting point. I’m walking during Season 1, hoping to build to running a 5K by the end of Season 4, 30 minutes at a time.

I’ve felt like I’m sleeping better by doing this, I’m not as scattered, and my weight is slowly starting to tick downward. It’s a process, but a good one all the same.

Anyway, how often am I walking or running? At least four times a week right now to give myself a chance at being a bit more sane. And to where: a healthy weight, a healthy mind, a healthy body, and a healthy soul. A little dramatic, but I teach middle school, so it’s expected!

I do this seven days a week if I could, but that’s not healthy either! 🙂

What about you? Are you walking or running? How often? For how long? Is there a goal in mind?
