This has been the year of travel.

My wife has complained in the past, “We don’t do anything,” during summer break. She’s been back in the classroom for 8 years now after many years of HeadStart, both as a teacher and administrator. They didn’t get a summer break, so we’d find time for her to take vacation time, but she’d work all summer.
8 years ago, she made the transition into the classroom, and each summer, we’ve had this conversation:
My wife: We don’t do anything.
Me: Summer is the time to slow down.
My wife: But I want to get *insert all sorts of things* done.
Me: Summer is time to slow down.

So, this year, we’ve “done stuff”! We took our trip to Florida for a bit of decompression right after school. We took a trip to Wisconsin because we’ve never been there. Both were about a week piece, a good time to be gone.
So last week, we were on the road again to Colorado to visit both our daughter and her husband who’ve recently moved out to Denver, and an aunt and uncle who’ve invited us out for years.
And this trip did not disappoint.
We had great food, saw some really cool stuff, visited and laughed with family, and for the most part, had an amazing time! Our trip took us to Sloan’s Lake, just outside of Denver, just a super cool area that you wouldn’t think would be in the middle of an urban area! Red Rocks was a great hike (and such a cool venue for music), and the Dinosaur Ridge, while it doesn’t look like much, is well worth the visit!
Our travels took us to Meow Wolf, a place that is beyond words. It’s a visual and auditory experience where you aren’t given a map, you just explore! Downtown Denver took us to LoDough, one of the best bakeries that we’ve ever come across. Such a great place and the owner, she’s a treat!
And, our visit with my aunt and uncle gave us Foggy Mountain Space Ship, a funky banjo (yes, banjo) band that we watched at an outdoor venue in Longmont. The stay at their place was refreshing and full of laughter.

Us too! 🙂
Like I said, all in all, we had a great trip and, if given the right opportunity, I’d gladly move out there. The right place, the right attitude, and no humidity!

Yes, it was, and it didn’t feel like I was underwater, like it did when we got home!
Again, we did stuff this summer. Now, she’s complaining about being tired!

Me, I’m ready to go again!
