Daily writing prompt
What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?

NOTE: This happens when you don’t have a writing routine, you miss a day. This was yesterday’s prompt, and I was writing, then school hit (long day), then after school hit (tired), then a cattle banquet hit (what?), and it was midnight. Grrrr. I’ll allow myself some grace, but since my move, I’ve not figured my writing time.

I’m tired. My throat is sore, my sinuses are full, and I’m not going to be able to match the energy today. Not at all.

If it were only that easy (and teachers know this for a fact). I lead with this because I struggled this morning to find a topic. Everything seemed juvenile or worse. As I logged in, WordPress saved me:

What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?

Without further ado, my list:

  1. Gettysburg: I still own this on VHS even though I no longer have a VHS player, it’s that good. This is the Battle of Gettysburg and while released in 1993, it stands the test of time. It’s a long movie (around the four hour mark) and like most, it takes some liberty with the historical content, but over all, wow. It’s a breathtaking to watch Chamberlin yell out “bayneots” (getting goosebumps right now) along with the absolute carnage of “Pickett’s Charge”, played out in real time. I enjoy reading/studying about the Civil War and this movie it amazing. It has led to a couple of Gettysburg visits over the years and to stand in those fields is humbling. We stayed in a campground near the town, and as I went for a run, it was like running through the fog of history. Simply amazing.
  2. Major League: There are two sports movies that I will never live with out and this is the first. The storyline is great, the casting is amazing (Wild Thing!), and the acting, while sophmoric, makes it that much more loveable. Sequels of this movie fall flat to the original!
  3. Hooisers: This is my other sports movie I won’t live with out. Gene Hackman (RIP) is genius in this movie as a coach, looking for redemtion in a small town in Indiana where basketball is king. While it starts slow, this movie builds towards an amazing climax, one that is based on real teams in Indiana before they had a class structure for their teams. A David vs. Goliath situation where David comes out on top. We showed this movie for years in sixth grade and every year, at the end, the kids are going nuts with the final scenes!
  4. The West Wing: This is must see TV at its finest. For 8 seasons, The West Wing was on our TV and in our hearts. As it grows older, it makes so much more sense. Martin Sheen plays Jed Barlett, a president with an unexpected rise to the office, along with his bunch of merry members on his team. The writing in this one, especially the first four seasons is simply stunning. The cast is what the kids call “chef’s kiss” with Martin Sheen, Stockard Channing, Rob Lowe, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, Kristin Chenoweth, and my personal favorite, Dule Hill (among others, there are a TON of stars in this show).
  5. Star Wars: Thsi one goes without question. Star Wars came out when I was six years old, and I bet I saw it at least 5 times from that point in my life through my 20’s (again, VHS in the baseroom).
  6. The end of Rogue One: Rogue One is one of the better Star Wars movies made after the orginial trilogy. It’s one the first movies made where there’s a happy ending, but at the cost of every rebel we grow to enjoy throughout the movie. They all die. Damn. But in the end, hope if given to the rebellion.
  7. Practical Magic: This is here because we watch it every Halloween. The book is great, but I’ve come to enjoy the movie immensecly. It stars a young Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. It gets very dark, but that’s the point!

So, those are some of my “5 times or more” shows. What are yours? πŸ™‚

And I still need some writing schedule. I just about did not get THIS turned in on time! Grrrr!!
