This is a great question for the holiday season! Heck, this would be a great question for ANY season!

I’ve got a few answers, so bear with me! π
My wife is an amazing cook. Period. Full stop. She is able to create things with a piece of leather, some salt, a little bit of chicken broth, and grass. Now, I may be exaggerating just a touch, but she does do amazing things in the kitchen. This past weekend, she made three pies, two other desserts, and a lasagna. My favorite thing for her to make is chicken or shrimp fettuccine alfredo. It’s so good, I won’t eat it at Italian restaurants. I’m so impressed with her ability to improvise with ingredients (and with her curse words when we are out of something) because quality is always there. My only issue (and my daughters as well) is when we have something delicious, we ask where the recipe is located. We usually get, “Well, I started with this recipe, but added a few things….”. What?? How can I recreate it?? Ugh!

I’ve always had amazing grade partners as I’ve taught in Iowa. They all have one thing in common: they are super organized! The first-grade partner I had moving here, her lesson plans were in a notebook that she saved. I’d guess she had 20 notebooks by the time we were separated into different buildings. She was so on top of things it was scary. Moving to the middle school, I had the chance to work with her a couple of years, then to a different grade level. I always had three other teachers I was working with and each one of them was so organized it was scary. I felt like a second-rate teacher next to each of them and for good reason. They were all amazing and I hope they know that. Where I teach now, she’s just as good as all the rest and I’m left feeling like a failure most days because, damn, how did you get that planned?? I can’t hardly keep my eyes open after 7:00 PM, especially as basketball season rolls on. Her, she’s got two kids, her husband, and keeps everyone in line, myself included! All of them are so impressive to me and I’ve admired the work they all do for our students!

Ain’t that the truth?? π
My brother, I’ve always admired his faith. A long time ago, I lost mine, and with each passing year, it moves farther away. I’ve watched as people kill each other in the name of religion. I’ve watched as religion has been twisted to fit the needs of man and fit in ugly ways. We had a pastor who preached a very controversial subject, driving off part of our congregation, some of who had loved ones who were those who this pastor preached against. As those battles have raged, my brother has been nothing but strong for his church and family. I envy that in many ways because there are times when I feel alone in this world. I doubt he feels that because of his faith. But yet, he’s able to enjoy life as well, being a great husband and dad.

Pretty much! π
So, yes, there are many people in my life who spark my admiration, not in what they say, but in what they do. Their actions speak so much louder than their words, and for me, that the part that I admire the most.
Me? I’m lucky to get out of bed without kicking a cat or falling over.
