This is a great prompt from WordPress for a Slice of Life!
When I read this today, I came up with three things that just seemed to pop out at me:
- Reading: I can get lost in a good book for HOURS! I’m rereading the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini and am finding them as good now as I did a decade ago. The reason for that, is he’s got another book in the series, Murtagh, out! So, I need to refresh my memory on what Eragon and Saphira were able to do in the first four books. Going to bed at night, I’ve lost hours diving into those books and others as well!
- Minecraft: Yes, Minecraft. Honestly, I got into Minecraft because of my own kids. I wanted to see what this was all about it. Then, students found out I was playing Minecraft, so suddenly, I needed to know what bedrock was, where you could find good supplies, what exactly Red Stone was and how to use it, along with how to beat an Ender Man. I’ve never been to the Ender World, nor fought the Ender Dragon, but think it’s pretty freaking awesome you can do something like that! I’ve not played in a while, but it’s loaded and ready on my computer so, when the erge hits me, I can, again, waste hours.
- Netflix: Yes, it’s a sad one, but yet, altogether relateable for many people. One of my favorite shows, The West Wing, used to draw a TON of my time. It’s not there anymore (boooo!!), but other shows I lose myself in include Avatar, the Last Airbender (live action and anime), any Star Wars series (I’m currently watching Rebels, with Bad Batch and Ashoka), Bones, Suits, or Longmire.
So, there’s there three that popped up in my head right away. What about you? What are things that you lose yourself in?

Reading makes number one on my list too. I don’t watch Netflix, but I cold watch old British crime series (Midsommer, Ms. Marple etc) over and over, and Friends and Big Bang Theory also make the TV watching list.

That’s a great prompt and I could tell those 3 topics are true passions the way the ‘ink rolled off your pen.’  🙂

Instagram, alas. It eats up soooo much of my time if I’m not careful.
I love that your students love that you’re into Minecraft! That’s so cool that they want to talk about it with you.
