You know what, it’s a lot harder to think about what you are good at than what you are terrible at. Unfortantly, when I saw this post that’s where my mind went. I know it’s terrible, but it’s been a long couple of weeks.
#tellmeaboutit
Anyway, 5 things I’m good at:
- Teacher: I always say that I’m an average teacher on a good day, but I still think I’m good at what I do. My job is to teach, but also to laugh, smile, and make connections. In the end, students don’t remember that good lesson on coordinate planes, but they do remember how you made them feel when they didn’t understand it.
- Asking Questions: I’m very quiet and uncomfortable with “peopley” situations. When when push comes to shove, I can cope because I ask good questions. People like to talk about themselves: their families, their kids, their weekend, whatever, and I can get people to talk. That’s something during evaluations that has been brought up, just the timing of questions and the type, both as positives in my teaching style.
- Gardening: Again, I see myself as average on a good day, but I love to garden and I see it as a strength of mine. I love being bare foot in the dirt, feeling that connections with the earth. I love trying a new plant to see if we can get it to grow something in our soil. I love to close down the garden, then see all the stuff we’ve frozen or canned. It’s a sense of accomplishment for sure!
- Family Guy: I feel like I play this part relatively good. My kids are grown, out of the house, and on their road to independence (I just wish they would call more often!). I’ve gotten better with communicating with my brother, not great, but better. There are many things I wish I could do better, but all in all, I try.
- Listening: My wife and I had a huge argument about this topic over the weekend (you don’t listen to me!), but I feel like this is positive in my life. Making connections means you have to listen to people, and I do. I ask questions then let them talk. I feel like I’m constantly distracted AWAY from listening to people.
What’s something you are good at? Let me know in the comments! And if you’ve gotten this far, thank you! I appreciate you and your readership! 🙂
