Last weekend we got the camper out and took it all of 15 miles down the road.

Hush. There’s a great county campground with all the stuff that we need for our camper. It’s easy in and out, it’s got electricity that is well wired, and clean showers. It’s a nice spot and we try to get there a couple times of a year. It’s on a small bike trail, close to town, and best of all, relatively close to our house. Chores don’t do themselves you know?1?
Friday night was simple. We got home, packed up, and away we went. We found an easy spot to back in (it’s not as easy as you think with a 22 foot trailer), got everything set, and had a campfire. S’mores, a little caramel whiskey, and a cool evening for just a great sleep!
Oh, and I got my first paycheck from my new job!

Don’t you know it?!!?
Saturday, we did some errands. We went to the best garden center in Northeast Iowa, K&K Gardens. They have an amazing selection of hostas and are the nicest, most knowledgable people you’ll come across. We bought a couple of things, then had burriotos at the food truck they brought in for the weekend.
Then, the event of the weekend, Hennyville Music and Art Festival! It was the brainchild of a former student of mine who just wanted to create a positive vibe in the world. A friend told us, “It’s a different kind of vibe,” which is absolutely ok with us! They had food vendors, all sorts of art vendors, and some terrific local bands! We saw some old friends and made some new ones while there.
We are spending a ton of time together, working at the same school, riding to work together, and these little kinds of things, just totally different than the main stream, are right up our alley. It was hippie central and we were all for it. Last year, it was put together rather quickly. This year was done up really nicely and it sets up for a great festival next year. Yes, I’m already planning for it.
We left at a respectable 10:00 PM that night with one more story. We’d gotten ourselves ready to go, but got grabbed onto by friends to check out a trippy little trail with mirrors and flashing lights and goofy lit up pictures. So, we dropped our stuff in a pile and followed along. 45 minutes later (we got grabbed onto by other people) we come back to a group of former students who’d taken our chairs and used them!
#WTF
I know!! So, we ask for our chairs back (who does stuff like that??). We get one handed to us, and get it bagged up. While we are doing that, we see our second chair being passed over to the person we got our first one from!
#ack
We ask for the second chair back and get the heck out of dodge!
It was kind of a silly way to end our evening, but it will be a good story to tell during future events!
All in all, a great weekend, and a great little festival! I cannot wait for our next little adventure!

How wonderful to get away and enjoy a fun festival. Laughed at students just ‘borrowing’ your chairs and the crazy light walk sounds pretty cool! Another plus…working at the same place and sharing rides to work. Hope your year is going well at your new school. 🙂 PS…I passed along your ‘Door County’ post to some family heading up that way this fall. 🙂

We are doing as best we can! My wife’s class is “challenging” and it’s been an adjustment working in a school where people just don’t know me. But, we’ll get there! I’m glad that my Door County adventures are being helpful! That’s my favorite part of this whole writing thing, when it does someone good! 🙂
