#what
I know, I was told over the weekend that I was “on a rant” in my blog. Imagine my surprise when I learned that one of my daughters actually read the drivel. Who knew? ๐
Anyway, I started looking back in my posts, and what do you know, I HAVE been a bit ranty lately. But in my defense, the world is not in a good place right now:
- Our governor wants to start giving public tax dollars to private schools, no strings attached. The Iowa Senate has already passed this (along with other bad policies that are only going to drive Iowans away), but this bill is hung up in the Iowa House because many representatives have no private schools in their districts and this money can’t be used for transportation. The Senate won’t approve a budget until this bill is voted on and approved.
- On a much lighter note, we saw my brother and his family (and in-laws), my parents, my daughters, and a boyfriend over Easter. It was nice to get everyone together again under the same roof in North LIberty. Lots of different conversations, laughter, good food, and just a sense of togetherness. On the way out, my daughters surprised me with a birthday present of Lego Mando and Grogu. So, last night and tonight, I put some legos together! I used to create massive builds as a kid. I now have Mando, Grogu, and a tiny little Millennium Falcon, all out of Legos. Nothing like an almost 51 year old building with little plastic boxes! ๐
- The weather has been absolutely garbage. I need to get into my garden, get some tilling done, lay down some compost, and if it’s not raining, it’s snowing. If it’s not snowing, it’s blowing, and if it’s not blowing, it’s a freaking week day! Ugh!! Plus, my seedlings haven’t been planted. My attitude is right along with the weather: garbage. Between school and politics and just trying to keep myself up for all those around me, there’s not much left when I get home.
- And finally, we took a booze run to Dubuque. In 2019, we found this whiskey in Galena, a turtle whiskey, and we did not purchase any at the time because we were carrying a bunch of other stuff around. So, in 2021, we made our way back to Galena, and the place that we found it no longer carried it (yes, profanity was used). However, we found a place down the road that did carry it, so we’ve been making runs to Dubuque every couple of months to pick up a couple of bottles. We cannot get it in Iowa because Iowa is a “control state”, which means the state controls it, and it’s a lottery on who gets things. I don’t quite understand, but I do understand that Wisconsin and Illiois are NOT control states, so we’ll be making more runs towards each one of them for our booze! ๐
As I sign off, on our way down to my brother’s house, we were talking about boomers. I’m not even sure how the conversation got started, but my daughter said that someone younger was acting like a boomer. My wife, then says, “30 year olds can be boomers too.”
Goodness, I love my wife. She is a genius and comes up with some freaking OUTSTANDING stuff!!

Love your legos … and your rants, too! Sometimes, we need to rant. We really do.

Peronally, I like a good rant intermixed with off topic stuff. It helps my mental wellbeing to get things off my chest but in a way that’s not in a “guns blazing” sort of way.
There is a time and place for that, for sure! ๐

Ranting is healthy as long as it doesn’t consume you and you can switch to ‘lighter notes’. Love the booze run…we have our own run down across the border to Mexico. Booze runs are fun! And if you ever get to The Old Tennessee Distilling Co. they sell some GREAT whiskey called Butcher’s Bourbon…sadly, that would be a LONG road trip for us to do often. Love the Lego building, too…and isn’t it super COOL that your daughter is now interested in your writing?!!!

Hey, we are looking for LONG road trips this summer. With truck and camper, we are wondering where is the limit to our travels! I’m finding the Legos give my brain a break. The jumbled mess that is my mind, it is helpful. As for my daughter, if she’d CALL MORE, that would help some of these problems! LOL! ๐

Yeah…those young-uns just don’t call as much as we’d like! The long camping road trips sound nice… can’t wait to read stories about them. ๐

A healthy dose of cursing and ranting doesn’t harm. A dose of Lego is recommended by doctors for mental and creative health – helps to keep the inner child happy.

I love the way you think! ๐ I hope you are well!

Well.
YOU know how I feel about rants.
And now, I’m going over to your weekend post because I’m all about it!
