‘Tis the season to be disappointed I guess.

Nothing too much, but it takes so little anymore to get me into that melancholy mood.
The first disappointment came as we were leaving school on Monday for Christmas break. I don’t know, my expectations are too high, I suppose. My room is on the way out, and throughout my career, I’ve tried to stop into other teachers’ rooms, just to say goodbye. Nothing too much, but just to make the connection.
As teachers walked out on Monday, four stopped to wish a Merry Christmas or just “happy break”. Four out of ten. The rest just walked by, even though they saw me in my room. Again, it might just be that my expectations are just too high, but I miss people just willing to take the 10 seconds to make connections.
My second disappointment, Christmas cards. I’ve always mailed cards out (my wife rolls her eyes). At one point, it was 40+ cards. The cards we receive would be taped up in our living room. Then, we slowed down on the cards, getting them out later in the month. I’m mailing them out tomorrow. We’ve got a. total of five cards up. I know people are busier than ever. Hell, we are too. Sometimes, you just want the same effort given to you that you give to others.
Tomorrow, we’ll drive to our daughter in Ames and stay in an Airbnb for Christmas. Our daughter in Colorado is not coming home as her husband’s family is out with them, and the other daughter has to work at 7:00 AM on the 26th, thus our trip down there. It’s not ideal, but it’s where we are in life.
So, Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays or Happy However You Want to Be Greeted. I’m hoping this feeling moves on, but I’m not hopeful at this point. We’ll how things go.
We’ll keep hoping for the best and going from there.

It’s always disappointing when our expectations aren’t meant. I hope you have a lovely rest of your break though.
