Another slice of my various tastes in stuff.

Before I dive in, a question for all of you who might read this slice: What do you use for a podcast app? Google Podcasts is going away (booooooo!!!) and I need something new. I asked this on Twitter and got some great responses, but many were for iPhones and we are *gasp* Android users. Any recommendations, leave them in the comment section, please! πŸ™‚

Some of my favorites:

Washed Up Walkon: I’ve written about them a lot. Three former walk-one players from the University of Iowa give their take on Iowa football. They’ve got some great insights into the program, and have some tremendous guests, and you can just feel the emotions they have toward each other and the program as a whole.

Tiny Desk Concerts: One of a few NPR podcasts I listen to, this one has artists come into the office and give concerts right there behind a desk. Cyprus Hill, Lenny Kravitz, and Sesame Street are some of my favorites, but many are in the archives!

Darknet Diaries: This is about “the dark side of the Internet”. Dark web shenanigans, how hackers work, both good and bad, and a wide range of topics. This is one I don’t listen to as much, but when I do, I kick myself because they are interesting!

Code Switch: This is a really interesting one about race that I started listening to in 2020. Iowa isn’t known for its diversity, so listening to journalists of color talk about race has been eye-opening for me. It is even more so now that I teach in a school that’s so diverse.

Coaching Culture: I coach middle school basketball, I love hearing coaching perspectives from outside my bubble. JP and Nate do a great job of talking about coaching, team culture, and a plethora of other topics on this basketball, but not basketball podcast.

So, what are your favorites? If you’ve got them, I’d love to have a look because I’m always searching for new learning! πŸ™‚
