An extra day to jot down some thoughts? Sign me up! I’d be happy to do this every four years!

Ha! If you say so!
Just some random thinking over the last few days to be thrown out there to the masses for consumption.
- Caitlin Clark is on a level not seen before. We watched the game last night (went to bed late) and when a basketball player comes out and scores the first 15 points for her team, and has more points than the entire other team until the end of the 1st quarter, that’s moving into a zone never seen in college sports. The fun part of her game, aside from her ridiculous range is her court vision. A couple of times, her teammates were surprised by the pass that almost took their heads off. That’s the joy Caitlin Clark brings to the game. I hope they make another deep run into both the Big 10 and NCAA tournaments just so we get a few more games with her.
- Music is the salve for the soul. I’m sitting here writing this, having just gotten done with songs by Taylor Swift and the Jackson 5, and have moved to a darker remake of “Uninvited” by a group called the Freemasons. I have “Rubberband Man” by the Spinners and “Oh Yeah” by Great Big Sea queued up. My moods have been all over, and my music tastes have matched that chaos I’ve been feeling. I’ll write more about my musical tastes in one of my Slice of Life Challenge posts in March (you are invited to join us, but sign up by tomorrow), it’s just nice to have something on that can calm me, pump me up, just make me sigh and bob my head.
- Our state is a giant cluster of red, conservative wing nuts, who have zero accountability to those who actually voted them into office. There are so many disheartening bills that were submitted and voted down, but even more that have passed through our “funnel” so they are still alive. This is not Iowa that I grew up in, nor the one that I can imagine raising kids right now. There’s just so much negative energy that’s coursing through the state.
- We’ve had a 70-degree high temperature, followed by a low of 8 degrees, on the same day, in February. We saw a robin on Tuesday, in February. We have daffodils up in our yard, in February. Our snow came all in one week, two 8-10 inches storms in early January, then, almost nothing. This is not normal, folks. True, it’s been another La Nina year, but still, this is so unusual for Iowa. We’ve noticed over the last 3 to 5 years that winter really doesn’t come until January anymore. Spring is later as well. Something is up. And it’s not good.
- We did two weekends of “peopley” activities. We spent the weekend in the Twin Cities, went out for dinner with a couple, coached in a basketball tournament, and attended a birthday party. This weekend, not “peopley”. We are going out for supper Friday, to celebrate our completion of the February Iron Man Challenge (running 26.2 miles, swimming 2.4 miles, and biking 112 miles in the month), but that’s it (I hope). Sometimes, you just need to find your cozy corner and stay there! π
So, any random thoughts you need to get off your chest? Please, share in the comments!
Oh, one more thing, I need to get seeds planted! I’ve got an order coming from Seed Savers and will probably order something from Baker Seeds, but our garden will start getting smaller because, honestly, we don’t eat as much, so we don’t need to grow as much! π
