This past August, we became part of the “empty nest” culture. Our youngest moved on campus at the University of Iowa and suddenly, it was just us. We’ve enjoyed our time together, but this winter, frankly, has been awful. True, we were able to get away a couple of weeks ago to Iowa City for a quick night away, but the drive home was awful.

So, today, with no bad weather, no real cold, no nothing, we decided to go out for lunch and do a bit of “whimsical shopping”. We headed to a small town about 30 minutes from our little piece of heaven. Our first stop, lunch! We both ran on the treadmill and didn’t have much for breakfast, thus were a bit more hungry. After lunch, we split up, with this town being known for many different women’s stores, I went to the local antique place and poked around. We finished off at the local feed store, pick up chicken feed, dog food, gloves, socks, and a cutting board. Can’t have a date without a little real life, can we? 🙂

As we made our way home, it was comforting to know that we could finally get out of our house and enjoy our time together. As the weather slowly but surely gets better, we cannot wait to get out more, enjoy our slice of heaven in Northeast Iowa, and enjoy our newly found freedom as a couple!
